Successful events appeal to the senses. Sights and sounds dominate most parties through a carefully planned mixture of decor, lighting, entertainment, video and so on. A catered event builds through an explosion of mouth-watering flavors. Interactive events use elements of touch to heighten the joy of audience participation. But besides the aromas emanating from an on-site kitchen, how do smells enhance and enrich an event environment?

Los Angeles-based Scentevents has the answer. The company can expand virtually any theme aromatically, tying in a sense of smell to the overall flavor of the event.

The Scentevents system has increased the WOW factor at numerous events, garnering many positive reviews. The company participated at the Event Solutions Expo in August, infusing the Spotlight Awards tent environment with fresh citrus during the opening entertainment, rich chocolate as dessert was being served and bubble gum as attendees exited at the conclusion of the festivities.

The company also recently scented a Caribbean-themed event in Toronto. Guests were treated to the smell of fresh coconut as they sipped tropical delights during the cocktail hour. As attendees entered the 25,000-square-foot tent for the main event, they were greeted with the scent of fresh mangos combined with a touch of coconut and fresh tropical flowers, successfully bringing a tropical paradise to Canada. Later, the smell of rich, melted milk chocolate filled the room and set the tone for the guests’ dessert treat.

The system is easy to set up and can be used in a variety of venue environments, whether inside or outside, large or small. At a recent Cuban theme party at the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank, Calif., guests sipped mojitos and were treated to a refreshing scent of fresh lime and mint to complement the theme. Later, as guests danced the night away, a lively scent of bananas filled the dance floor.

Scentevents has an unlimited variety of scents available. On its website, Scentevents organizes them under categories, such as Libations, Fresh Baked Goodies, Sweet Shoppe, Fresh Outdoors, Fun Food and Fruit. Fresh floral scents are among the company’s most popular, with the aroma of fresh cut roses used on Valentine’s Day and natural bouquets for afternoon tea and weddings. Another fun scent, bubble gum, has been used for ’50s theme parties and children’s events.

The company also offers holiday scents and will even customize an order to blend with the theme of a special event. Other popular scents include sour apple, fresh peach, fresh mango, pineapple, ocean breeze, fresh baked brownies, chocolate mousse, ice cream sundaes, and even a birthday or wedding cake. Seasonal scents include pumpkin and apple pie, evergreen, spiced cider, cranberry and peppermint. In addition, scents designed to neutralize odors, such as smoke, portable toilets or even the smell of a vinyl or a canvas tent, are available.
